Mission and Scope

The Proceedings of the Arkansas Psychological Association is a peer reviewed open access journal which is officially endorsed and run by the board of the Arkansas Psychological Association. It features three broad categories of research: (1) Student Research. We will give strong preference to research with substantial contributions made by Arkansas psychology students. This includes undergraduate and graduate research. (2) Commentary and Case Studies by Arkansas Professionals. We want to provide a venue for practicing professionals in Arkansas to engage in reasoned discourse and academic scholarship regarding issues specific to psychology professionals in the state. We will accept case studies, literature reviews, or commentaries, so long as they are deemed relevant to other Arkansas Psychology Professionals. (3) Research by Arkansas Psychology Faculty. Arkansas has a wealth of small college and universities. Many of the faculty across the state engage with scholarship, but lack the time and financial resources to produce studies suitable for elite high impact factor journals such as Psychological Science, JPSP, or Psychological Bulletin and Review. Yet, well designed small scale studies can still make important contributions to the scientific literature. We want to provide an opportunity for Arkansas Faculty to receive peer reviewed feedback and share their research with the public.

Submission Guidelines

All submissions should use the most recent APA guidelines when preparing your manuscript. For research articles by students and faculty, we would prefer that you email a manuscript to the address listed in the submission portal. For shorter articles, such as commentaries by Arkansas Professionals, you may copy and paste your submission into the submission portal. For all submission, denote somewhere on the manuscript whether you are submitting a student, professional, or academic article. There are no word limits or minimums. However, we may request that very long submissions have their length reduced as a requirement for publication.

Print Version

Articles will be published throughout the year on a rolling basis. Every year, in December, we will print a limited number of hard copies of the journal and feature all of the articles published between January and November of the previous year. Authors will get a free copy. Additional copies may be purchased for $10 a copy. In addition, copies may be sold at the ArPA Spring and Fall conferences.
